About
Rachel Whitlow's landscapes are realized in the interstices between man and nature. Zeroing in on specific areas or subjects and repeatedly coming back to them, her work often straddles the worlds of figurative and abstract language. Whitlow’s work does not attempt to replicate an actual place, but to transform it into something else--- to create a distilled experience driven by imagination, emotion, memory and reflection.
A graduate of Cooper Union, Whitlow also studied painting, lithography and print-making at Academie Minerva in Groningen, Netherlands. She is a master printer of both the Tamarind and Paris methods of lithography.
She works in New York and on Mt. Desert Island Maine.
Whitlow is currently a member of the Upstream Gallery in Hastings-on-Hudson.
